Image macros are pictures with superimposed text used on internet
forums and imageboards to add emphasis to common responses to other
users posts. One of the earliest and most widespread examples was a
picture of a snowy owl with its head cocked to the side and saying
"Oh, really?"

Adding captions to animal pictures became more popular with the advent
of Cat Macros or "LOLcats." Here the goal became less to provide an
image to be used as rebuttal in a forum conversation and more to
simply share a humorous picture/caption combination. The "I can Has
Cheezburger?" cat is generally considered the first picture of the
LOLcat explosion. LOLspeak captioning websites have spread from cats
to dogs, walruses, squirrels, and even lesser animals like politicians
and celebrities.

Obviously a lot of people like looking at pictures of cute cats with
funny captions, but we realize there are just as many people who think of
something else entirely when they hear the word "pussy." So that's
